Should I buy?
Evening Folks. Looking at my 1st Audi. 2007 A4 2.0T wagon 6spd. 112K miles with awesome service history including recent timing belt / water pump service. We have agreed at $11,250. I would be selling my 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5i that has been great. My question is : smart move or asking for trouble? I have a 150 mile commute on the freeway at least 2 times a week. Looking for some input from true Audi folks....
Thank you!
Thank you!
Audi's are a great car. I've had mine just over two years and love it. It should get better MPG over your Subaru. It's nice that the timing belt and water pump etc have been done already. With the 2.0T you may find that it consumes oil, but it is a known thing with these engines and all you need to do is keep a spare quart in there with you and top off when needed, check it periodically. A lot of people who do reviews on these cars with these engines complain about that, but I don't see it as a huge deal as long as you stay on top of it. Mine hardly consumes oil, others do at a high rate. Beings that car sounds well taken care of, chances are it won't consume that much. The AWD as you know with your Subaru, is awesome to have (assuming you're looking at a Quattro). Fit and finish compared to your Subaru will be a lot better. Probably more quiet in cabin and more refined. I'll quit rambling now, but that's all my 2 cents.
Ditto what mhoward stated. If you are unlucky you could get one that has issues. Based on the service history you should be fine. Mine uses a little oil (about 1 qt every 2500 miles), but that hasn't been a huge issue for me. I have over 142k on my car now and still love driving it everyday.
I bought the '07 A4 Quattro 6sd Wagon 3 years ago and have enjoyed every mile!!Just drove from Northern Ohio to middle PA and got 31mpg..I had the timing belt and water pump done around 75,000 which is early but worth the piece of mind. The brakes
I did myself with a Akebono carbon upgrade&rotors which cost me $370 all the way around. They were original till 80,000.Replaced the diverter valve and the cam follower around 55,000.And of course the fuel filter around 80,000.If you do the work yourself, you can save a TON of money. Definately worth the money if you like to drive!!

Are you comfortable wrenching? Or do you mind paying for euro parts and service fees? Yes to the first, get a vagcom first thing and go for it. No to the second then go for it.

Thanks a ton you guys. I do all the maintainence on my vehicles with the exception of big jobs. I just want it to give me 3 years of fun comfortable commutes without being a hole in the driveway that I throw time and money into. How about the price? Sound fair?
Is this a Quattro car? If not, then you might want to reconsider. I've heard bad things about the CVT trans vs Quattro trans. The price sounds fair. Can you get them to an even $11,000? No matter what you'll be happy, especially if you can do some wrenching yourself.
It is a quattro manual tranny. $11K was my offer on an advertised price of 11,900. I feel like $11,250 is fair but have not paid over $8k for a car in many years. Having trouble saying goodbye to the Suby. Thank you guys again!
The mileage that's on that car doesn't equate the price I don't care how you argue it. You should be able to at the very least get the same mileage for no more than ten k. I can almost guarantee that the car is going to require more money whether it be routine maintenance or something should come up. Hundred k is a milestone for the A4( what car isn't the same?). Like clockwork planned obsolescence takes over and you'll be putting more money steadily especially if you want it running like a top.
I don't mean to let you down, but it's the inevitable. It's a scenario, the more you know and learn about these cars the more you realize what needs to be done - that doesn't end. These are great cars when you keep them running that way. As always the first maintenance expense you should realize is to get yourself a vagcom full 350 bucks. The system on the 2.0t is so connected it'll have you dumbfounded. Imagine chasing a mushy brake pedal, among other symptoms, caused by a blown solenoid in your diverter valve. Good luck and let us know if you purchase your A4.

Price doesn't seem horrible to me. I checked Autotrader and a majority of the wagons run in the $12k to 13K range (one listed at $8k). KBB indicates it should private party around 10K (with out options). Depending on options and condition the $11,250 wouldn't scare me off. I personally think KBB started low balling the value of cars. They know dealers use these values now and manufactures are big advertisers on their website.
