Question Should I buy this A4 Avant?

New to this forum so forgive me if I am in the wrong area.

Looking to purchase a German made wagon, my wife's civic just doesn't cut it!
I am looking at a 2006 Audi Avant Quattro 2.0T with 6M, 54,000 miles, Premium and Winter package, 8 new tires (summer and winter), one owner, all records, Audi only service, no oil consumption issues, no accidents, car is clean and like new. Beautiful!

Negotiated price is $16,000 CDN (about the same in USD).

BUT.. I am in the west and the car spent the first 5 years of its life in Eastern Canada where they use salt on the roads. The owner did have the rear license plate bulb burn out a few times so Audi replaced the rear plate housing and lightbulb mount on corrosion warranty (apparently a common issue). No other corrosion visible but there is a small wave in the paint in front of the passenger tire on the edge of the wheel well. Dealership is aware and said that corrosion warranty will cover it if required. I am not sure how good Audi is with their 12 year corrosion (perforation?) warranty. I have heard good and bad.

Should I be concerned? Good buy? Other issues of concern for this model?

I appreciate any guidance and hope to contribute back in the future

i believe those engines have oil consumption issues as well as the high pressure fuel pump, cam follower and intake camshaft failure.

Corrosion can occur if the vehicle is subjected to salty roads or not.

Avants are generally good. The car was subject to salt and winter but Audi has good corrosion protection. As long as the car had no dings or scratches that let salt into the metal it should be fine. As far as engine problems it goes back to warranty work and proper maintenance. The 2.0TFSI's from 04-06 were prone to maybe a bit more possible issues. For 2007-2008 (some later model ‘06’s too) the 2.0TFSI's had some slight updates that corrected or updated internals (BWT engine version). My A4 had 2 coil packs go bad (later all were replaced with a recall) and the PCV went bad at 24tmls. Mine currently has 59tmls and is running great, but I still take it to Audi to perform all maintenance/service checks. The Cam Follower/HP fuel pump was addressed by Audi with an extended 120tmls/10 year warranty. I received my letter in the mail after requesting it from Audi USA .

All in all it sounds like a great car you are looking at, and you should be happy with it.

Thanks Aetius! Great to get a positive response. A lot of negative comments about BWT A4, oil pump and timing belt failures leading to engine replacements. I am not sure if Audi Canada has issued the extended the cam follower warranties but I will look into it with VIN. The previous owner was meticulous about maintenance and care; your comments are encouraging!

No problem. As far as timing belts this was an on going issue with all belt driven engines. The maintenance schedule for the 2.0TFSI is 75tmls for a timing belt. Some people wait longer and snap, engine busted. I have not heard anything on the oil pumps going bad though. Main thing is to check you oil and fluids (like on any car) and have regular oil changes done. Don't be cheap with your Audi!
