Test Pipe for B7 A4
I want to get a test pipe for my B7 A4 and I hear that some aren't so good, as in setting off the CEL and requiring either spacers or chiping it to resolve. I have no plans on chiping it and i don't want it to become a hassel, any one have any experience with a quality product?
as far as i know milltek is the only company that produces a downpipe with a high flo cat attached to it ....its a pricey grand tho......you could go to a discount muffler shop and they would be able to make u a down pipe for cheap but without a catalyctic or however u spell it converter....you will fail emissions

Any test pipe is going to cause a CEL because the 2nd 02 sensor is going to be reading the same thing the 1st 02 sensor reads and this will cause the ecu to throw the CEL.

I had great success with an Ebay DP for my GTI. Super cheap and works awesome. I would just get an Ebay one for less than $100 bucks. You will most likely get a CEL because if you use a angle spacer they are hit and miss if they work. Be prepared for the light without the chip.
Question. Why not get the chip. You will feel nothing and gain barely anything by replacing this part. Chip and this part and could go straight to stage 2 this way with massive gains. Test pipe alone makes no sense.

i read that the test pipe makes the exhaust loud and smelly. the noise is particularly bad (ricey) if the exhaust is stock too. i read that there are no performance gains with going with a "high flow" cat. the stock cat is already non-restrictive. there was a dyno test done and the stock cat made more power than the milltek. if you're after power go with the chip, fmic, diverter valve and you're set.
You need the test pipe or hi flow cat to go to Stage 2 with your chip. The test pipe combined with the stage 2 program should give you an extra 20 hp or so. Thats on top of the 40-50 hp you get with stage 1 programming.

I'm going to just stick with the Stage 1 APR kit (intake, catback exhaust and a tune). 300 tq? 250hp? thats enough for me as a daily driver.
umm for a turbo going catless is one of the best things you can do.....yea its illegal and and bad for the environment but what has that done for me lately? nothing but rain where i live
going catless on a turbo car makes the turbo spool up faster and on the 2.0 engine huge power gains for the money (somehting like 15hp 30lbs of torque)
im thinking about going catless when i get the money for it and farnbacher lowles is going to do my chip through unitronics as well as their dyno to make sure i get as much power as i can out of it
