Default Is there a way to get the car in boost while at a standstill?

Hey guys, I am trying to find a way to lower my 60' at the dragstrip, and when I am launching I have to roll out rather slow because the ecu isnt allowing me to be in boost while at a standstill on the starting line.

Im my previous car(Evo VIII), even stock I could pull 1.8-1.9 60' with a horrible clutch! The best my B7 quattro did was 2.193, which is really rather disappointing.

Thanks for the help,

John

Anyone? If I get a tune will it allow me to launch in boost?

You have a mt or an auto? auto's can brake boost, HORRIBLE for your tranny but you can deff do it. You can create boost by just revving the engine and a tune will up your boost quite a bit. If you install a boost gauge you will see that by just revving your engine, you are creating boost just standing still.

I have a boost gauge, and my car is manual, and no it wont stay in boost at a standstill. It will peak into boost but barely, and drops off fast the the ecu is venting it.

Yeah, our ECUs don't want to produce boost unless there's load on the engine. I think maybe 034 Motorsport has a product that lets you boost before launching, but I don't remember for sure.

I do not have an answer for you but I can offer these thoughts.

Mac is correct that the ECU is shutting down your turbos. I wasn't aware of this until very recently when my 2.7T developed a rattle while at idle. It was loud and embarrassing at stop lights but if I revved it to about 900-1000 RPM (Idle at 740) it would make the sound go away.

However when I'd then punch it at the green light, the turbos never kicked in all the way through to fourth gear. I mentioned this to the guys that do the work on my car and they confirmed that it's because the ECU is overriding the boost.

But here is the question that I've been pondering... How is disabling the turbos and is it causing damage to them. The diverter valves aren't large enough to handle that much airflow on top of the fact that you don't hear any vacuum sound. The turbines can't (shouldn't?) lock because then you're blowing exhaust gases over them while they can't spin and cool off.

Obviously I didn't answer your question but I'm eager to figure this out too.

It has a wastegate to regulate pressure, so it will just bypass the turbine, it doesn't hurt it.

eMacPaul, do you know where the solinoid is that controls the wastegate is physically located at in the engine bay? I'll look again, but I couldn't even see the wastegate when I looked last night, probably cause it was so dark out, but yeah I couldn't see it....
