Default what is this?

i know this is from a B6 a4, but im sure it could probably be put on a B7 as well... but most of all i just wanted to know what it is, what it does etc...

here is the link the to thread where i read about it, and its the picture of the undercarriage where there is a pipe coming from the exhaust with a solenoid attached to it... hope you understand what im talking about but its the 6th picture down!

If it is what I think it is its a dump pipe. Itjust dumps the exhaust. JC Whitney sold a mechanical version of this back in the day. While in town or what not you ran it closed. When you wanted to open her up some you would open the dump and have a "free flow" exhaust, no cat, no mufflers no pipes!

I think Jason has it right. You can close it up and have the exhaust run just like a normal exhaust. If you open that up, then the exhaust isn't restricted and just dumps straight out...

I've seen those on lots of off-road trucks and rock crawlers...
