Default What's temperature gotta do with it :-)

Hi folks,

I live in the Bay Area, have a A4 Quattro(19K miles).

I've noticed the way it drives appears to have a connection
with the outside temperature. It's optimal(engine feels smooth,
better throttle response) when the temperature is 60 - 68 or so.
On other days(very cold/hot), it kinda groans.

Could it be the tyres? Anybody else noticed this, any ideas?

Thanks.

thats the forced induction air coming in at 60-68 is just the right amount of air to make ur car perform the best.....anything below and theres too much air (when air gets cold it gets smaller ..think cold air intake) and when the temp is hotter there is not enough air in the engine.....the forced induction just means more and more air is being fed then a standard engine so u feel the effects more

Thanks dmfan016 for the reply. Think all turbocharged
engines should have this problem of being sensitive to
the outside temperature?

It is very likely that somebody lives in a place where the
temperature is not in the optimal range most time of the
year. Guess they would have a rough ride all that time.

Just curious what they do about it? Any easy fixes
(tuning, etc.), or end up doing some mod?

every car has a MAF which measure exactly how much oxygen is in the intake and provides the correct amount via the fuel injectors which is why it doesn;t cuase too too much of an issue.....but the temp range ur talking about is the optimal temperature range for combustion in an engine thats why it performs the best in that temp need proof? look at a quarter mile strip times throughout a day and you'll see that car thats run early in the morning (60 degrees) seem to always run the best times

it wouldn;t have a very noticable rough idle but the car performs best at those temps....the car still performs tho regardless of temp

Thanks dmfan016. So basically all cars(turbo/non-turbo) take a hit in performance
when the temp is not to their liking, but the turbo forced induction makes it worse,
right?

This is the first turbo I've driven, but am sure guys out there have tried other turbos.
Any comparisons(on how they cope with this, generally otherwise)?

the turbo just makes it exxagerated, when ur car warms up it should perform fine
