Default Window Tint Removal

Anyone have any suggestions on the best method to remove window tint. The back window is beginning to bubble and I want to be sure I don't damage the defrost filaments.

A razor blade and Goo Gone works for the side windows. Due to the Defroster, I had professionals take the tint off the rear window, and the little rear quarter windows. Some companies use steam, and others use chemicals that smell like ammonia, but I didn't want to risk damaging the grid. I once had a peel off static sticker melt to the rear window of my Jetta, and I damaged the grid trying to get it off. I think it was a very steep $145 to get the tint removed from my Audi.

I went on youtube and watched a gal do it with a blow dryer and another guy who did it with steam. The steam seemed messy and didn't appear to be more effective over the blow dryer. I think I'll give it a try since I can always take it in and pay for it. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to save some bucks.

Default Tint removal - update?

what did you end up doing? And how did it work for you?

I just did the razor blade method on the four side windows, and the results are less than optimal.

Try using the "Fast Orange" hand cleaner. Believe it or not it works wonders.

I took the window tint off mine as it was too dark. All you do is put a heat gun to it and it become flexible again and proceed throughout the window.

I was able to start with the razor blade at the edge of the window and slowly work the corner. If you're careful about how you tug at the film, it can come off in a big one piece sheet, leaving a few smaller areas to work on. Goo Gone worked to remove the residue.
