Adaptive Cruise Control
Can anyone comment on how well or not well the adaptive cruise control works? My wife and I are in the process of doing a car build and need to know if this is worth the money. We got to test drive an Infiniti QX with it and loved it. But some systems supposedly make "sudden braking" which would really **** you off if you spilled coffee or any other drinks on you lap, console, kids, etc...
Thanks in advance.

I have the adaptive cruise control and absolutely love it. I use it all the time, especially when I'm on a two lane highway and the person in front of me cannot keep a steady speed. I just set the speed, tell the car how many car lengths I want to be behind the person in front of me and it does the rest. Very, very helpful.
In the first iterations of "active cruise control", I read in some car magazine that during testing, while cruising along at 70 mph on the left lane and a semi truck on the right lane was doing 40-50, the car suddenly "jammed on the brakes". This is what I'm afraid of.
I assume that you haven't encountered anything like this yet? And hopefully never?

I have had no issues at all with the adaptive cruise. I tell it what speed I would like to maintain the distance to keep between the car in front of me, if there is one. So far it has done what I ask of it with no complaints.
I saw a video where Volvo was holding a press conference to show off their adaptive cruise controls ability to stop the vehicle. It did not fare well for Volvo.
