Default B8 VAG-COM Mods

I exchanged my Micro-CAN cable used for my old A3 for the new HEX-USB_CAN cable at Ross-Tech and found the following mods available to change in the computer:

1. LEDs on with fog lights, side markers, high beams and turn signal
2. Windows/sunroof/sunroof shade closed when holding remote lock button and windows down when holding remote unlock button
3. Instrument needles sweep the gage face on startup

This last one looks pretty cool. These changes can be found in modules 09, 17 and 46. Unfortunately the windows/sunroof/sunroof shade only close only as long as you hold the lock button. My A3 would close the windows on its own once it started and you didn't have to hold the button.

Two corrections/clarifications to make:
1. This option turns on the fogs, side markers and high beams with the DRLs, but you can still keep the LEDs on with the turn signals as that is a separte option. You can also only activate ony of those with the DRLs if you want as they are each separate options.
2. When you turn this option on, the MMI screen gets a new option to tilt open the sunroof along with the windows and separte options to only operate the front or rear windows with the car remote.

First you have to buy a HEX-USB-CAN cable to interface with the car. If you buy the cable from Ross-Tech, then you'll get technical support and more options with the software program. Other cables are available for less, but you won't get the full functions of the interface program or Ross-Tech technical support. Then you download the freeware program from Ross-Tech that will read the various modules and help guide you through the options. You can explore this at http://www.ross-tech.com.

Funny you should ask... I just found an option for a Lap Timer, so I figured what the hell, see what it does. I turned it on and I now have a lap timer in my instrument cluster. I don't know what I could use it for since I won't be taking my car to the track, but it's pretty cool anyway. The first picture below shows the lap timer screen when you scroll through the different mileage and mph screens. The second picture shows two laps recorded and the third screen shows the calculated average of those two. There's gotta be another use for this... I just can't think of it now.

nice, for people like us who only use our vehicle as a daily driver can use this lap-timer feature as an errand timer.

That's true. You can time your wife/gf/bf/husband the next time they ask you to stop and tell you "it will only take a minute".

I've now disabled my seatbelt chimes, turned on emergency brake flashing (brake lights and parking lights flash in hard braking) and now have LEDs at full brightness with parking lights (they don't dim now with parking lights). I found out how to enable a hidden MMI menu here where I have turned on a battery monitor display like is given for the oil level display. If you don't have this feature already, you can activate the passenger mirror dip in reverse.
