Fuel consumption
I recently bought a 2009 A4 3.2 Avant for my wife. It is a wonderful car, but after driving for 2 weeks we noticed that we were getting 5km / litre in town driving. I called the Audi dealer who told me, to my surprise, "that sounds about right".
Can someone please confirm or comment on this as I find it very difficult to believe. The engine has been checked and no problems found...Thanks.
BTW we drive it in Kyoto, Japan.

In town driving with lots of short trips will always be pretty bad for V6/V8 engines. It takes these big lumps and long time to heat up and run efficeintly. I have a Mercedes C300 that has the same issue. I can get over 30 MPG on the highway but my 5 mile trip average around town results in my overall MPG being around 19-20. With what I expect would be heavy traffic and slow average speeds in Kyoto wouldn't help much either.
Keep in mind that most engines have some sort of break-in period in which the mileage will likely be a bit lower until things get worked in well.

Thanks Poppy. I am also hoping this is a run in problem. I drive a Jaguar XF 4.2 in pretty much the same conditions but I get much better mileage. Before that I drive an A6 3.2 with again much better mileage.
i average about 8-12 km/L depending on how much idle time there is. stop and go traffic is nasty for fuel economy. from a full tank to half, I can go over 300 km if there isn't much traffic. when there's alot of traffic, from full to half is about 200-250 km.
What gets me is the Audi attitude of "so what" when it comes to fuel consumption issues. At the moment I get about 200km on a full tank.
In desperation I asked Audi to check the wheel alignment, which they did, and I got a bill for the work done. This is a 2009 car which has just over 10,000km on the odometer.
There is something wrong with the car but I am sure I am fighting a losing battle.

I get about 400kms on a full tank, its not the greatest I can say on a really good week maybe 450 tops. I dont know what it is, hmmm I think I gota stop driving these cars and start crusing only way I say fuel consumption going down is if I throw 20s on this bad boi.
