I have an 09 A4 2.0T. I think I am going to put a chip and exhaust on the car within the next month. I was wondering if anyone could give me an opinion on whether or not I need an upgraded intercooler. I really wasn't looking to spend the extra cash but I keep hearing that the added performance increases temperatures and that its really recommended for the car. Do I risk damaging the car in any way by not upgrading the intercooler??

 

I think that if you are going with a reputable chip company like Stasis or APR then it's not very likely you NEED an upgraded intercooler. i think if you needed it they would say its required and try to sell you it. I dont know if Stasis even touches intercoolers and they are pretty much the approved tuner for Audi. If you are getting a custom tune though, then i could see how it might be necessary, say if they really up the boost.

just some food for thought, when i was researching FMIC a while ago the consensus was that it makes no real difference in day to day driving. only in WOT situations. so if you race the car, it might be something to think about. if not, i wouldn't worry too much. although, some people seemed to think an intercooler was much more bang for the buck than an exhaust upgrade.
