This is very interesting too me because I was waiting for the "break" in period to start figureing out ways to spool the turbo for an intital launch. I hear that turbo kicks in around 4500rpm?.

If you cold hold it in N and revv it and hold rev and for the sake of it drop the revs shift straight into S, how long would it take for the turbo to loose its spool?

My friend does it in his 335i and it is terrible for your car, I do not reccoment trying to launch an auto car regardless of tip or anything like that. It is not meant to catch the gear at such a high rpm, for that you would need a strong hydraulic clutch which audi's do not have.
-EDIT
Turns out the torque converter on audis fails hard best way to launch is to do it the way i described 2 posts down if you knock it from N to D YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR TRANNY

Also a turbo spins at 150,000 rpm it takes a while for it to lose power

Found this online seems stupid but id thought id share alternative way of launch
1. Find your stall speed.
a. In an empty parking lot, or somewhere desolate, put one foot down HARD on the brake pedal and then slowly apply the gas pedal until the rpms come up and stop rising. that is the stall speed that I will refer to later.
b. write this number down, mark it on your guage face with a non permanent marker, or memorize the needles position. you will need this later.

2. Practice.
a. Using the 2 foot technique (one on gas and one on brake) determine the amount of brake pedal pressure needed to hold the car in place with the engine at the stall RPM.
b. Now with your foot on the brake with the needed amount of pressure slowly raise the engine RPM to the stall, then drop back from the stall by 200 RPM.
c. Finally, this is the tricky part where you need cordination. Release the brake pedal WHILE mashing the gas. the 2 actions have to happen at the same time, if you bounce off the stall your launch is ruined.

3. Experiment
a. Find at what engine rpm you feel like you get the best launch from. different cars with different mods have different power bands. some may launch the best right at stall while others may do better several hundred rpm below stall.

there, now you know how to launch an automatic, or atleast how i was (self) taught. will you get the tire smoking burnouts that a 5spd will? nope. will you get slightly better 60ft times? maybe]

THIS IS NOT MINE

Brake launching on a tiptronic tranny is very hard on the torque converter. Expect it to die eventually if you start doing this. There is also no "stall speed" on an automatic car, unless you are talking about a rev limiter.

i also would think it would be hard on the axles because the axles want to spin but the brakes wont let them, therefore applying alot of stress at the cv joint and where the axle meets the tranny.

well, for people who want a perfect launch should consider a manual transmission to begin with. as for the tiptronic users, too bad.

Yeah - I don't brake launch my tip ever. I beat the hell out of it when I drive, but I never brake launch it. If you plan to be launching your car then a manual is what you should buy, unless you upgrade to a Level10 tranny..
