Multitronic Transmission Problem in A4 with 55k miles!
I have a 2010 A4 and recently started having transmission problems. At first I just wrote off the increasingly jerky nature of going from a dead stop (at a stop sign or red light) to driving as a symptom of cold weather, but then on a warm(er) day I realized it actually got worse. I called my local Audi dealership and told them what was happening, and they told me to bring it in to get checked. On the way there I almost got t-boned because the gearbox decided to malfunction while I was making a turn onto a busy road. Fortunately the other cars were able to stop and go around me. Anyway, I was able to get my car to the dealership. After a few days of testing and attempted repairs, they said I needed a new transmission! They said it would cost $9,000, and that because my warranty expired 5,000 miles ago, that's what i'd have to pay. Really Audi? I spent $40,000 on a what is supposed to be a dependable, high quality car, and the transmission gives out with just over 50,000 miles on it? And you don't care about your customers enough to realize that this is ridiculous and cut them a break? I'm still deciding what to do. Needless to say, I highly doubt I'll buy another Audi, nor will I suggest to my family and friends to buy one. Terrible customer relations.
Haha, I know, right? Thanks for the idea. I thought about that too. Fortunately after a bit of complaining, Audi cut a deal with me. A brand new transmission would have cost $9,700, but they agreed to take $6,000 off, which I really appreciated. So now I have the car back and it runs like new.
I hope this was an isolated incident...from what I can tell, my experience [vis-a-vis the transmission] seems to be the exception rather than the norm.

2010 S-5 purchased CPO last year at 45,000 miles at Audi Coral Springs FL . At 54,000 miles, gearbox malfunction showed on dash. Service advisor said to give them $340 to diagnose. Huh? It was only starting. $5500 to fix, and NOT covered by Audi CPO. Huh? What was the $3500 CPO warranty for except to cover what Audi TSB told them how to fix it.
No help. Was not told to call Audi Corporate Advisor to bump it upstairs.
Audi refused to cover the work. Goodbye Audi.
The key? The service techs are on commission. Go somewhere else. I got another dealer to fix it for $85 (per CPO terms). Get your car to another dealer, and stay away from CPO Audi.

I have a 2010 A4 with the CVT transmission. After driving it for about a year I began to notice problems. It would hesitate to start from a stop. This can be dangerous if you are trying to turn onto a busy road. Slowly, but surely it got worse. There were occasions where the car actually bucked when I tried to start quickly. This was accompanied by a banging sound which persisted for a few seconds after I took my foot off the pedal. I had complained about the problem on service visits. Even had a service manager drive the car with me for test drives. Unfortunately it never acted up during these drives. With 6 months left on the warranty I brought it in again. They had me leave the car with them for a few days. They took it for final test drive on the day I was supposed to pick it up. They said it went fine UNTIL the serviceman was turning back into the parking lot. Apparently they experienced a problem. Funny - it never acted up on me when I was decelerating. Whatever - they replaced the transmission. It took while because it had to be shipped from Germany. In the meantime, they loaned me a new Q5 which was fun to drive. When I picked up my car they gave me a copy of the bill even though they picked up the whole thing. Sum total was just over $8,000. Yikes ! Scary. I was lucky this all happened while I was still under warranty. Audi treated me well. The tranny is working smoothly so far but I've only had it for about a year. It's still not good from a dead stop, but it's acceptable. I worry that this one might go too.
