i guess what im trying to figure out is how well they run, how reliable they are, and how long they last...and how it compares to others..i know that the a4 lacks in handling and engine compared to its competitors

Well are you buying new or used? And two things make the car last: maintenance, and enough luck that you don't get that car that even stumps macanics why that part would break. But as gas as quality both cars have it, a benifit of the Germans. And depeneding on your climate awd(if your going with quattro) helps handling in the snow. No unwanted fishtailing that you might get in a BMW or Benz. And what Audi lacks in "motor"(I'm assuming you mean horse power) It makes up for it with the best interior my a$$ has ever sat in.

Here this might help: http://www.mbworld.org/audi/post_2.php

by the way they have the same torque but the Audi has a huge powerband compaired to the Benz.

I love the leather, my car just rolled over the 16k mile
mark. And has been hit with leather whips a couple of times and they look like the're still brand new. But I know in my girlfriends vw that a pair of her pants had dyed her tan leather seat blue and has yet to come off with anything I have thrown at it. Black looks better anyway. And I suggest test driving the Audi the way you would drive the car on a daily basis (ex. If you do alot of highway miles take it on the highway). What I love about the A4 is the seats. They are the best of both worlds. They hold you tightly in the place around turns but feel like the wouldn't kill you if you had to sit in them for a 5 hour ride. Not like the Benz IMO it like they put a lazy boy in the car, yea good comfort but go around a turn and your keeping youself
in place with the dead pedal.

Hope I helped....

By the way your probably going to have to wipe down the seats once in awhile just like the BMW maybe more maybe less I don't know never owned one(yet) but hey when your annoyed when your doing it just think about how much fun it was when you had fabric covering your seats.
