Thermostat replacement help needed!
Help! I had cost p2181 pop up and all the symptoms of a failed thermostat. I finally figured out how to remove it, but each time I put it back in I get a little water leak.
Called the dealer, they said they always change the whole water pump because it is "easier" that way.
Part of the issue is how the o-ring washer lies inside the housing. Any tips on how to place it? Right now I am putting in the thermostat, then oring, I balance that while putting on the housing. Is that correct or should I put the oring before the thermostat, or should the oring go around the flange of the housing.
Any tips are appreciated! Going to be opening it back up again tomorrow. It is a 2 hour job each time so any tips would be great.

Hi,
I also have the p2181 error code. Was quoted 550-750 for repair and after just spending 2700 for turbo replacement decided to do this myself.
I've scoured the forums for diy info on thermostat and cts replacement for b8 but doesn't seem to be much available.
How did this turn out for you?
Do you have to remove water pump to replace thermostat?
Did you also replace cts?
Thanks
