USB Flash drive not supported
Hi Folks,
Not sure if anyone can geek a solution on this one? I have B Nav_EU_P0206 (I believe that is MMI 3G Basic) and it has previously accepted a 64Gb flash drive loaded with my music in a file and sub-folder system with about 3,000 tracks.
Recently I used the drive for another task and afterwards re-formatted it as before as exFAT. I loaded the same system back on with a few extra tracks and now I get the "not supported" message. I've tried two other sticks in the car which are smaller capacity and they work without a problem. I have tried my 64Gb stick in our late model VW and it works perfectly. It also works in my two PC's so the stick cannot be the problem. I also changed the 'volume name' in case that was the solution. So far, I have re-formatted in both exFAT and NTFS but no change.
I have read elsewhere that the first time the USB stick is used in the vehicle it 'may' have assigned it a code of some sort and now it is expecting the content to be the same.
Anyone out there with a clever solution 'cos I'm running out of ideas!

Problem solved. I'm posting this in case anyone else comes across the same problem.
My 2013 A4 needs the flash drive to be formatted as FAT32. To achieve that it's not quite as simple as it should be because Windows will only offer to format as exFAT or NTFS. If you are computer savvy Windows can format a larger drive than 32Gb as FAT32 using the command prompt and a detailed set of instructions. However, there are 3rd party apps that are much less work and I used one of those. It is a myth by the way, that FAT32 will not work with a drive larger than 32Gb. It can actually work up to 1TB.

OK, the way I did it was to create a folder for each Artist and then a sub-folder for each album by that artist. Into that I dragged the mp3 files. You don't say what vehicle or MMI version you have but you can see mine from #1 above. Bear in mind that AAC, m4a and m4p files will not work in an MMI 3G system regardless of the folder system you use. If you are hoping to use files you've downloaded (or even purchased) from Amazon Music, Apple, etc they will be protected and you would need a conversion program to convert them to mp3.
Hope that helps. Good luck!
