Default Very Bad mpg on 09 2.0 CVT

I have had the car since April last year.

The highest mpg I have ever gotten which was mainly freeway was 23.49 mpg. The lowest is 13.98 mpg. I have an average of 18.02mpg. It makes no difference if I hypermile or not. I must admit though that I rarely use highways. My commute is only to take my kid to school so about 2.5 miles a day, if that.

These figures are nowhere near the claimed 23/30.

Does anyone else have these bad numbers? Could there be an issue with the engine that is making it use more gas?

Thanks.

For as little driving as your are doing it sounds right to par with the other A4s. Those numbers given are taken from an average of driving conditions.

Your trips are very short and depending on the terrain and acceleration its probably ok. I notice about the same mileage when I first start my mostly highway commute (1st 5 miles or so) but by the end of my trip (about 20 miles - its close to 30mpg). look at your average miles per hour. If your speed averages in the 20s or 30s then this is definitely not highway commuting.
