Default The new EA 888 engines...

Sorry gang if I posted this in the wrong spot, I couldn't find anywhere else to put it. :-/

Over the last several weeks I've stumbled across a few references to the next generation 2.0T engine that is supposed to debut here in the U.S. sometime next fall in the A3, A4 and A5 models. For my part, I want one, and am willing to hold off on purchasing an A3 until next year so that I can have one.

What do y'all think?

Glad you started this thread, I’ve been looking for more information since you brought up earlier.

One thing that caught my eye in the fortitude article “Non-valvelift versions of the EA 888 series 2.0T, we hear, are already being fitted to production A3s.†Too bad it doesn’t have the valve lift system, but I guess it still benefits from reduced weight & is quieter from the chain drive. Maybe this is the PZEV version that is showing up?

I’m not sure if I’ll wait for a 2009 or not, but I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more information about the EA 888 in the A3 2.0T, thanks for the heads up. I wonder when is the earliest you can order an 09 A3 and when it would likely be delivered. Right now I’m looking at ordering in the spring and then have to wait 3 or 4 months anyways…

Default Some more good stuff on the new EA 888 engines...

Which is a link that I got from this thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3749316

If I've read the above thread correctly, the new EA 888 engine (also referred to as the CCTA engine) is already being shipped to the U.S. in the PZEV cars being sold in the CARB states. Can anybody from (primarily) California confirm that?

Well, I will go down to the stealership tomorrow and investigate, though they don't know much about Audis (would you expect an Audi/VW dealership to?).

I'm in Vermont, we have those ball-sucking CARB emissions regulations here too. I know Scooby has an assload of PZEVs on the lot. Those new Legacys anyway. I stopped looking at Subaru when they started making the Ford Fuckus (err, their "redesigned" Impreza) though...

I'll see what I can dig up, I know they have an A3 2.0T and a 3.2 (or 3.0, not sure, I always drool on the A5/S5 when I'm there)...

I custom ordered my A3 in March, it was built in April and I took Delivery in early May. It appears to be the new engine... I haven't found any definitive designation of EA888 or CCTA anywhere, but the all-black engine cover simply says TFSI and the dipstick, etc. are in a different location (left side) than the older ones--I'm pretty sure it's the new one. It was labeled PZEV on the window sticker and looks very different than the photos of the older A3 engine compartments. I wish it included the valve-lift and extra HP, but I'm very happy with the car so far, so no regrets. Just passed the 600 mile mark!
