1983 Audi 5000 problems

The problem i am having is after driving even for 5-10 minutes and shutting the car off it will not start back up again.
It also does not hold its idle well dies down then will not start back up for roughly 45min to an hour.

any ideas on what the problem may be and an estimate on the parts

The idle problem is probably due to a vacuum leak, the hard starting problem could also be the end result. It probably takes about 45 minutes for the engine to cool down sufficiently for the cold start injector to kick in. Check the system pressure and manifold vacuum when the engine is running.

yup start looking for vacum leaks ... rubber vacum lines are cheap

what would be the best way to look for a vacum leak if the car cannot hold its idle

spray a can of brake cleaner all around and look for changes in idle .... fire it up and use a stick or somthin' to hold the pedal while your sprayin'
