Default 1990 audi 90

hey guys, i was at school today, and a buddy came to me and said "hey look audi 90, 300 bux" and well i kinda shrugged it off for the moment cuz was busy but told the guy to keep the ad and bring it tomorrow, the ad said the car is in perfect condition but the trans is bad. he wants 300 bux, now im gonna go check it out tomorrow, now replacing the trans or even rebuilding it is not a problem for me, im trained on rebuilding auto trans, and will go with whatever option is cheper, however what im wondering about is the engine these cars have, i think its a 5 cyl but not sure. can anyone just kinda give me some info about what i should expect to see (not talking condition wise) in the car when i go out there. And maybe what else to look for at the vehicle, i currently own a 96 a4, and need to buy some expensive tools so figure sell the A4 and rock the 90 for 6 months or so and then buy a new car.

its probably the 5 cylinder and they are very good engines also the body work is galvanised so little on rust problems, main things to check is oil and water "cylinder head problems" the rest is like any other car tyres/exhaust/breaks all in all a pretty good motor in my view

The 2.3L 5-cyl is a great motor, very solid and reliable. At 184K miles my 1991 100Q still runs great and pulls hard. Before I bough my car I drove one with 237K and it was also very solid and smooth running. I have read that these motors can easily exceed 300K miles without a major overhaul. The only major work I had to do was a replace a head gasket and mill the head down 0.012”.
