yes, vacuem leak can do that. on my audi 90 I did a full engine compartment vacuem swap. and I wanted to start the car with couple houses off. car catched but died next seconed. do as I did, I took one short hose, when to a part shop, bought regular rubber house with same size about 1m-1.5m and next think I removed each hose 1 by 1 and swaping it for new. Now I have lower RPM idle and more stable.
do that and attened to your O2Sensor. check it by unpluging it from the hole system and cheking its volatge and/or resistance. it should not have no 0 or infinite resistance between any wires. 3 wires are ground, power, output or power, power, output. dont remember wich one.
retarted ignition means that the mix inside your engine is ignited it later while it should ignite it earlier to the Top point. it may couse uncomplite burning which will couse low boost build up and hard start up.
you can buy an OEM sensor or univerasle:

or you can build an Oxygen sensor simulator, which you might feel unatical:

also CEL helps a lot.

auxiliary idle air bypass valve very common fault, pipe breaks/gets gunked up/valve gets gunked up bad starting/idling is the result

Another source for problems that is often overlooked is the injector seals. The rubber eventually gets hard and shrinks or cracks.

hey. i still have problems. i cant find the injector seals. or the injector itself. where is it? i have pictures of the engine and a short video of it running and you can hear sounds like whistling... check it out. sorry about the 45 second wait to download the file. my ftp is down... if somone could draw out places on the pictures on where to look for leaks that would be great. thanks.
