Default '89 100 Quattro eats alternators/belts

Gentlemen, may i indulge the hope of your learned minds on this nagging issue. my '89 100CS quattro wagon has repeatedly trashed three alternators. here are the specifics. i just had my third alternator replaced a few weeks ago (the previous alternator lasted 6 months) and it is already showing symptoms of imminent death. the alternator belt is already loose (squeaking) and the car does not consistently hold a charge. the battery has been tested and is fine. my mechanic is at a loss to explain why it's eating alternators and belts. your help is much appreciated.
