Question '89 200 turbo running problem

I have an '89 200 turbo, not the quattro, that won't stay running. I can start it up, the tach shoots to about 1500, drops down below a grand and dies out. If I keep the pedal steady above a grand, it stays running, a little rough, but still running. Any idea what might be causing this? All help and tips are greatly appreciated.

How about after its warmed up? Does it stay running then? Those engines have a cold start valve and a warm up valve. It could be either of those or the temperature sensor that signals those valves to turn on.

Thanks for the reply It's when the motor is hot or cold. As long as my foot isn't keeping the idle steady, she dies out.

1. Look for a bad vacuum line..

2. Sometime the IAC get stuck..

3. Is the air flow sensor sticking?

4. How about the TPS?
