Question '89 200T Heater question...sputtering heat???

Hey everyone,

I've searched this forum and haven't been able to find any simialar post, so here's my question:

I just picked up an '89 200t and absolutely love it. The heat wasn't working, just blowing cold air so took it back to the mechanic who fixed it for free...was the flap switching from cold/hot air flow. However, now the fan comes on, blows hot for a bit then sounds like it is cutting out. When I have it on and open the hood, I can hear it blowing constant, but it isn't getting into the cabin. It sounds like it is sputtering. Then if I drive a bit more, it starts blowing (sometimes full) then will cut out again and sputter. I know that it has auto climate control, but trust me, it isn't getting warm enough in the car for it to cut out.

This car was a one owner car (an older German fellow) and it came with all service records. He babied this thing. I suspect that it may have sat for a bit as once the flap was fixed and I first turned on the defrost, I got a blast of leaf bits in the face!

I have the Bentley manual on order but haven't got it yet and would like to fix this asap as it is flippin' freezing out in the mornings now.

Any help/suggestions would be great! I'm not a mechanic, but have a pretty good idea around cars...just new to Audi

Thanks in advance!
