Default Car won't start

My car suddenly will not start. When I turn the key there's no sound from the starter. The battery seems to be okay. I drove it back from vermont to NYC with a pop start. Not sure why it stopped working. Is is the starter or maybe the voltage regulator? Is there a way I can diagnose the problem myself before taking it into a shop? It's hard to find a good Audi mechanic in the city.

If it's a loose groundwhere do I check that? My car stops for no reason when I am at a light. I think the vacuum system is okay.

thanks,
james

Can't swear this is it, but there was a recall on the ignition switch for 94/95 Audi 90. Numbers are
WAU_ _ 88C_ RA113204 thru WAU_ _ 88C_ SA083727. The recall was for erratic assessory operation. The switch is about $45 and really not that hard to replace, once you know how to do it.If the car runs with a push start, you have to start eliminating things sometime. I'd also check for corrosion on any connections - like the starter.

fuses are a good place to start, do the dash lights come on? and do they go very dim when you try to crank? does the starter motor click at all?

check the battery has plenty of cranking amps ( try a jump start ) this will give you an idea of the problem if its battery related

Yeah trieda jump from a truckbut stillno response at all from the starter, nor after driving 4 hours. The funny thing is that it had been started 2 hours prior to when it stopped working. All the dash lights come on, lights, stereo, etc. I couldn't locate the fuse for the starter from the ones listed on the face plate. Do you know which fuse?
thanks,
jim

By no response I mean that the starter does make aclicking sound, all you can hear the fuel injector pump, and thats about it.

dont have any fuse location data on the 90s 1994 ( not for the UK ) we lost the 90 model in 1990 and replace with the 80 regardless of engine size so only thing I could suggest is checking all/any fuse, is it an automatic? also engine size might help
