Dose anybody know how difficult it is to replace the heater blower motor in a 87 5000 S Quattro? Yes... it's a PITA! I don't think that you can change the motor by itself. You have to pull the whole heater box assembly. Your best bet is to follow the Bentley manual v-e-r-y closely. Don’t try any short cuts, the German engineers made everything fit very tight with very little room for any deviation. While you are at it change the heater core as well.
So it is worth the $225.00 to take the car to my independent euro mechanic and have him install the blower motor? the heater core has already been replaced by the previose owner 3 years ago. or should I look around for cheaper rates. I buy the parts and he installs them (as long as they are new in box), He has never done me wrong and his work is top notch. or should I just tackle the project myself in the garage.
I just couldent bear to take the car in to have this done. I am regreting that now! LOL I have everything disconected that was outlined here - http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/blowerfix.html, but I cant seem to get the assembly to come up but maybee 2". I did pu;; the 2 screws loose from the top of the tube thingy that gose to the A/c box but I cant get to the bottom one. Also I dont want to brake anything but how hard can I pry up on that assembly to get the blower motor out? Also I didnt pull the heater core hoses off @ the core itself, I pulled them from in the engine compartment so I didnt have to risk any harm to the H-Core. I have to go and get a pair of 90* snapring plires to get the motor loose from the housing.
I finaly got the blower motor done today and replaced the thermostat. the blower motor really is a PITA. I hope to never have to do that again. I did notice today that the LF Outer CV Boot is torn. is this CV boot easy to replace? It looks like I can just remove the outer axel nut then the 6 alen bolts and pull it out am I rite? Thanks in advance and for all the help so far.

Wronggg. Theres 2 ways doing this.
#2 - You can pull the whole damm thing uot, which is a LOT of work, people say they had to taek apart dash and all.
#2 - Yes this works its been done. Cut the cover, pull out just the motor, replace. All done under the hood
