Hello fellow Audi owners, time for me to introduce myself. Im a long term owner of a75 Scirocco, 86 Cabriolet and84 Vanagon, and now an 85 5000S.
My family owned an import car dealership in Upper Michigan from 68 to 88, selling Toyota, VW, Audi,Porsche and Mercedes Benz. I loved cars from the start and was driving at the age of ten, and when I was 22 I bought my first new Audi, a Tornado
Red Coupe GT! Through the years I stayed in the car business and landed in West Michigan as Porsche/Audi/Subaru service manager at the local dealership. Years past and i eventually traded employment to be a stay-at-home dad for over 10 years. During that time I had a friend who offered me a 200 20V TQ with a blown clutch, and drove that for several years. 15 years later that same friend have me an Onyx Green 1980 5000S! This car had been parked due to a blown head gasket and parked in the basement of a church, and over the years it got picked apart. Here is a mostly complete list of what is missing: All A/C related components, cruise control, power steering, power sunroof motor and switch, power lock pump, front and rear bumpers, front turn signal and corner lights, headlight bezels air filter housing and miscellaneous engine vacuum parts and cis bits. If anyone has any of these things available please contact me!
Amazingly, it does have a front air dam (brown) from a turbo model and the avocado green leather is intact!
It did however, and somewhat oddly, have a box of nos parts in the trunk, like cv boots, all 5 injectors, fuel filter and misc used bits. Weird.
First thing I did was flush the fuel tank and run new fuel through, then replace the filter, pump and injectors. I drained the other fluids and replaced the headgasket, timing belt, water pump and flushed the cooling system.
Cleaning and repainting things as I went, I eventually got it running. A lot of things were missing or disconnected, but I think I have all the vacuum leaks solved, and the timing is an ongoing experiment in the search of power, although is elusive as of yet.
only one power window works, and no sunroof motor or a/c, so its not the most fun to drive currently, but I do have plans pending parts availability.
I can say that in since acquiring this car almost a year and a half ago I have been absolutely combing every salvage yard within 300 miles including Canada, FB marketplace, Clist, Kijiji, every forum and every driveway and backyard I can see, and these cars just dont exist. I have joined or rejoined all the Audi forums and posted on a few and some of them have not had a reply of any kind this entire time. I decided to introduce myself here on AudiForums because it seems to have at least some activity in the classic Audi forums.
My hope is to share and exchange stories, information and resources with fellow Audi owners to help keep these old cars going.
My goal with the car is to find a manual transmission parts car to swap in which should increase the fun factor, and continue making it a fun and reliable driver.
Cheers!

Reason: Fewer pics
As stated, the sunroof motor had been removed and was missing when I got the car, and I got lucky to find a used sunroof motor for $75. delivered. The sunroof panel has a surprising amount of surface rust on the bottom side, and the sunroof trim panel had a lot sitting inside it.
I dont have a s/r switch or the harness to the motor but will attempt to retrofit a power window switch, tomorrow.
