Newbie here - quick question on engine type
Just signed up to the forum after purchasing a '95 Audi Cabriolet. I've worked on and owned SAAB, Jaguar, BMW, and Mercedes... but this is my first Audi.
I'm going to subscribe to alldata for repair information, but I need to know what engine type I'm getting. Alldata is asking me to distinguish between a 2.8L (AAH) and a 2.8L (AFC)
Can someone tell me what these two acronyms mean and which engine I'm getting? The Cabriolet is an automatic, if that helps.
I really appreciate the help. How's the reliability of the Cabriolet? Any issues I should watch out for?
Thanks!

Man, I searched a while for the answer to your question, and couldn't get anything solid.
A good idea would be to give Shokan a quick call, they really know thier stuff, and have done this for another forum member on here in the recent past.
95 was the year that they switched from the AAH to the AFC. There were a few differences in the bottom end and the heads flow a little better on the AFC, but theay are still rated athe the same basic outputs. The changes were made to the AFC block so that it could share a casting with the upcomming 30v S4 motor that was in development. You shoyuld be able to find a machined flat spot on the block that will have either AAH or AFC printed on it. I *think* that it's on the mating surface for the left (driver's side) head, right by the front of the intake manifold. If not there then it will be on the emissions info tag under the hood under the listing engine family (quite often thoughthis tag is removed or worn out)
You can also try looking under the trunk mat next to the spare tire. There should be a label that will show your engine and transmission code.I could see the label being MIA though,'cause mine is just sorta floating around under there and no longer attached. Butit would be somewhere near the spare tire well. Hope that helps!
