Unhappy where to start? 1990 coupe gt quat. help!

Hi all.

I recently purchased a 1990 coupe gt quat. car is beatiful, clean, looks brand new inside and out. only problem is it runs like crap.
car starts fine, shifts fine. 82k miles on.

i think something is wrong with quat system.
example: tires chirp.. seem "grabby going around corners... seems like it is "lugging" at the differentail (cant make up its mind...????).. brakes lock up unless i press the antilock overide system, etc.
yeas.. i got shafted on the car.. and i am sure it is worth more in parts than as a driver. problem is i really like it's looks and think it "could" make a nice occasional driver.

but i do not even know where to start. my local import shop (works more on MB and lexus, etc...) did not even want to touch it due to the age and quat system.

am looking for a shop in the annapolis, Md area that may be knowledgable about the cars... but again.. not even where to start.
I know (as you have probably already figured out) nothing about these cars... could it be a computer??? some module??? a valve in the diff? the whole system??? i know it's impossible to diagnose from the above description.. but a starting point would be greatly appeciated.

also... is it possible to simply go to front wheel drive. ie. overide.. dissconnect the whole diff all together? prefer not to.. but just thinking as an option.
any thoughts, insults, etc greatly appreciated!

R

I would start by talking with a tech from the Audi dealership in town or in DC. That tech should get you started. If you like the car...keep it.

Rick,
Can you look at your car on the right hand side and see if you can see where a certain electrical connection goes? I am hoping a similar year 90/91 can help me with my problem.
PLS I am hitting a wall.
Please see my post https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=164406
Thank you so much.

It's a quattro so the tires drag a bit in tight corners

See if the 4 wheel drive lock-up button is pushed to on.
It lockes the front /rear axles at low speeds but releases once you get going.

anti lock brakes are another issue - I don't know about them.

Goto another thread - maybe A6 and ask about good indy mechanics in your area.
