Question 2004 A4 Quattro 1.8 Fuel Pump

Hi. I bought a 2004 A4 Quattro for my son last August and a couple of months ago the car just stopped driving. After some research and talking to a mechanic replaced spark plugs and coils. Still didn't start. Had to have it towed to my shop, who just started eliminating things that they thought it could be. Ultimately, they replaced the fuel pump and crank position sensor because after replacing them, the car started and ran. A week and $1,200 later, picked the car up and left and it started dying while driving down the road. Immediately, took it back to the shop, and this time while there, they could hear and visibly see the "real" problem, which was a little vacuum hose that had been taped together by a previous owner and was coming undone, causing it to stall and at times flat out not start. Since picking the car up my fuel efficiency has dropped significantly, and I always smell gas. Took the car back to them, again, thinking maybe there was fuel leak, etc. but nothing.

While looking through the many receipts we have accumulated in the 6 months we have owned this car, I came across the fuel pump replacement bill and noticed that based on the invoice, they put a V6, 3.0 fuel pump on the car, but the car is a Quattro 1.8 turbo, 4-cylinder.

What are the implications of putting a V6 fuel pump on the car that we have, or is it fine to do that? May be a stupid question, but I seriously know nothing about cars and my son's father lives in Upstate New York and is never around to help him figure these things out. Just wondering if it would cause these issues and if I should go back and tell them they need to put the correct fuel pump for our car on. Thank you.

Same as other response. Close to 100 views but no response from anyone. Thank YOU all, so much. I see these forums are only for a select few. Thanks again, for absolutely nothing.

Hey, here is what i would do, in the in pics there should be the OEM part number of the fuel pump, call local audi dealer give them your vin and ask for the fuel pump OEM number. If it's not then definitely needs to go back and have them put the right one in. Just a thought, I would suggest replacing fuel filter if it has not been done yet. The gas sent, check the seal For the fuel pump assembly, it's possible to not be seating perfect and upon up, down and bumps the fuel could be splashing out. Something to start with. Hope this info useful.
