55 Audi A3 2.0 140 TDI Sport 3 Door
Hi Guys,
I recently bought a 55 Audi 2.0 TDI Sport 3 Door. However I have noticed am getting really low MPG when compared to what the car should be getting.
All my driving is local and the odd motorway journey once a month. Today I was on the motoroway and on the Trip computer I was getting around 50MPG with nothing on such as the climate control.
On local journeys I see it between 30-40 MPG.
I also recently had it fully serviced so not sure what is causing this.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

My cousin's 54 reg 2.0TDi 140 S-line DSG records about 46mpg, but we live in a rural area with the nearest town 10 miles away, so not much in the way of short or local journeys.
It seems to be generally the case that manufacturer’s mpg figures are rarely obtained in real life motoring. Your 50mpg on the motorway doesn’t sound too bad, depending on what speed you’re doing - at 80mph plus, that’s probably about normal, but at 70mph I’d expect to do rather better than that.
Short journeys of course can really ruin mpg, especially for diesels which can take several miles to warm up, during which time they are operating below peak efficiency. Below 40mpg doesn’t sound outrageous if journeys really are short, with lots of stop/start driving. But if it gets down towards 30mpg I might start thinking there’s a problem.
Do you keep tyre pressures well up? At this time of year I find tyre pressures decline quite dramatically with the onset of cooler weather, and this has quite an influence on mpg.
