Default A4 fuel pump

Is there a special trick to get the gasket under the top part of the fuel pump to seat evenly. I had a harder time with that than anything else while changing my fuel pump. I thought I had it but looked under it this morning and sure enough there gas leaking under it. Its a 2002 quattro 1.8.

Is it possible for the pump to not be shutting itself off causing too much pressure and therefore causing it to leak? It only leaks when the car idles for a long period of time(15 mins or so).

I think I solved my problem. I replaced the filter because I have no idea of knowing how long that one was on it. It wasn't in the best shape. The return was difficult to blow through compared to the new one. There was also snow packed around my fender wells. I cleaned those. I don't know if it were either of these, but it seems to be fixed now.

I'm no mechanic by any means, but I would recommend anyone try to do this yourself. There is an easy access panel to get to the pump, a pair of plyers,a screwdriver, and a hammer were the only tools I think I used. It took about an hour all together including the pump. I had $200 in the pump and filter shipped. The pump wasn't bad but I thought the filter was a little high.
