I have a 2005 A4 that is experiencing an odd issue where the car lurches slightly during the downshift between 3rd and 2nd gears. My independent mechanic pulled no diagnostic codes and is unsure what the problem is. I have approximately 61,000 miles. Has anyone experienced this issue or have any suggestions?

 

I have a similar problem with my 2004 Audit A4. In February 2010 the gear indicator on the dashboard started to flash. In October 2010, it looses gear intermittently then I have to turn it off and on to restart it. The dealer wants close to AUD$4,000.00 to replace the transmission control unit. I now found out from others that this is a know problem. I'm surprised that Audi has not recalled this model. Please advise if Audi should replace the TCU at no cost to me. Thanks Aussie12

 

Hi I'm still in dispute with Audi Head Office in Sydney. They deny that the TCU is a manufacturing fault. This transmission problem happens to new and old model Audi vehicles and are expensive to replace. As this is a software/computer problem, it has nothing to do with wear and tear.

I'm calling all Audi owners to please report similar problem. They haven't done any recalls in Australia when America and Europe have already done so. Audi should fix the probem at no cost to consumers.

With the transmission slipping and gear turning to neutral while driving in fast moving traffic is a road hazard and a danger to human lives.
