If you guys didn't see my few posts in the new members area, I have a 99 a4 1.8t auto, but the engine is from a 99 1.8t manual. The dealer wants $115 to take a look at it, and if it just needs reprogrammed, then they will do that in the hour of labor that the $115 covers, but another german specialist shop in my town seems to think (from an over the phone conversation) that reprogramming will not solve the problem and that at minimum I would need to replace the engine computer with one from an automatic engine. Currently the car is drivable, but shifting is not always consistent.

What do you guys think? I do not have a cable to do diagnostics at this point
