Fact or Fiction. Can you recode an ABS module?
let me get the the nitty gritty.
1998 audi 2.8 a4 avant wagon. the part number of the abs pump was an 8eo 614 111m and im replacing the module with an 8eo 614 111p is it possible to recode this module to work as an M unit? Vag Com will not communicate with the 111m module. I have vag com, but no bentley manual. Can anyone help or atleast point me in some direction!? THANKS! -Cory |

All of the following procedures must be performed in order, without shutting off the ignition or exiting out of the ABS controller. "Re-Activation of ABS control module for Audi S4 (B5 platform)---Only for cars with ESP. All of this you are doing at your own risk. I am not an Audi mechanic, just sharing what was successful for me. From VAG-Com, select 03 (ABS Brakes) Select Login Enter login code 09495 (6spd) 09497 (tip) Click "Do It!" Select Recode Enter Soft Code 04395 (6spd) 04397 (tip) Click "Do It!" Select Basic settings Select Group 001 Turn the steering wheel +/- 10 degrees and then return to the zero (straight) position. Verify results from the screen. Clear all DTC codes. That is all I had to do. For me, the ABS light stayed on for a while until I had driven a round for about a mile. Then it was gone. I went back in and cleared any remaining codes. Try this before the steering calibration. I have done this on both a Tip (L-box) and 6spd (H-box). The codes are based on ESP, not model year. Here is the procedure for zeroing the steering wheel. Please do not do it unless you are certain it is needed. I imagine that a DTC code will keep popping up of it. You will keep getting the DTC unless you initiate the sensor by turning the wheel back and forth at least 10 degrees. I did not have to do this with my car, so I am going from the Audi instructions, there may be some difference. I don't have my VAG in front of me while writing this. From VAG-Com, select 03 (ABS Brakes) Select Login Enter login code 40168 Click "Do It!" Select Basic settings Select Group 001 There should be an "OK" in a block for Calibrating Steer Sens. Group 005 should display the zero position. Switch ignition off Switch ignition on Repeat. Clear any DTC's Remember...I had to go for a drive (a very slow, safe drive for the light to go out). Come back and clear all the DTC's in the ABS module. Enjoy (hopefully)." |
the Bosch sensor that was corresponding to the 111m brake block was replaced with the sensor from a 111p brake block tonight. Without starting the car (the valve cover is currently off getting seals so starting the car is not an option) there is still a solid ABS light with three beeps and the flashing Brake light. This leads me to make 2 assumptions:
A. Assuming the sensor is in good working order it appears that a recoding is absolutley necessary. Now this could mean i just need to drive around acouple miles to turn the light off, or at worst a complete recode through vag-com. B. Second assumption is that the "known working module" is in reality a not working module and is suffering from the same problem most modules suffer from; a broken ground on the circuit board of the sensor's internals. After all there is always the risk of purchasing a replacement that suffers from the same problem, especially when there is alot of secondary market trading for these modules online and on ebay. So i will keep the thread updated through the whole journey of solving my abs problems to hopefully make the repair for others who dont have thousands to spend at the stealership. |
help needed with ABS controller recode after replacement
The ABS controller module was replaced: now the sofware coding is 00000 and Workshop code is 00000. I have the orginial coding (was softwarecoding: 04277, Shop #: WSC 06435 with the old ABS) but do not have the correct login information.
I tried the info given above but it did not work. Can someone help me (how do you generate the correct login?) ABS Coding
Hi, this is a great thread, I was hoping someone might be able to help me find the login for an A6 ABS module. I see the login for the A4 is 09497... the first "9" = A4. Any ideas what an A6 would be?
