AUDI A4 2.8 1999.
I start the car and start ok at 700 RPM I give gas and whenever my car passes the 1200 rpm it starts boggling, then I give It a gas and it jumps 2000 rpm and maintains itself well in the 2100-4000 rpm range, but whenever I go back down to 2000rpm the engine boggles again and jumps directly to 1000 rpm. Also lost power. I all ready test the injectors, spark plugs, fuel pump its new,The car has 76 000 miles . good compresion, and start easy. I want to know if it is a catalytic converter problem, or timing . Thanks for your help.

Throttle position sensor? from the general description you gave...

it sounds like an experience i had in my past.

my experience = a car that switched from higher RPM to lower RPM... sort of hunting... of which i had no control.


take it apart a clean it once... it will likely be full of a tar/ carbon grit.

you could have plenty of other solutions... Do you have any more specific symptoms? that go with?

There is an adjustment on the transmission where the end of the shift cable is attached. You may play with the slots in the bracket to see if that helps.

Check to see if there's any debris around the trans multifunction switch that may be blocking it's movement. You can see it by removing the LF wheel and one heat shield.
