Yes, the real-deal Ross Tech version is more expensive and worth it.
The eBay ones are generic dongles, and you can only use an older version of the software, or one which does not work so well...many features just do not work. Or you can use the dongle and pay Ross Tech for the latest software (I think around $99). I opted for the real-deal, as it is a great tool and would rather support those who made it possible instead of eBay rip-offs.
