Today I drove my car to where the display said that I had 5mi left. I wonder what happens when the display hits 0mi. Is there then still a reserve left? Will the car stall at exactly the "0mi" display?

So what happens when it hits 0, after those 30 miles are gone as well? How much reserve is left then?

Just becasue you hit zero dosn't mean your out of gas. The miles left per tank is calculated by your average fuel consumption. If it says 10 miles left and you floor it it will quickly jump from 10 to 5 to 0 even though you may not be out of gas. I've hit the zero mark before, I was on the way to the gas station and forgot what i was doing and passed it then ended up driving about 5 miles on the zero mile mark to the next one. The car didnt stall or sputter it just kept on going.

Above is correct. I've run down that low a couple of times and it appears like i have about 1 gallon left.

However running the tank that low sucks up the accumulated crud into the fuel filter. Try not to run that low.

Funny you mention it: I s*** you not, this happened 2 days ago! I hit 0 on the display leaving work and headed straight to the gas station. It was 1/2 mile away. My car holds 21 gallons. When I filled up, it stopped at 19 gallons. I had 2 gallons left. With my car (city driving) I get 15-16 mpg. So, I figured I had 30-32 miles left. Hell, the AUDI engineers knew we would push this and though ahead. Morale of the story: Fill up when the as light goes on...duh [8D]

I think prbayha is right, i came into the gas station a couple miles passed 0, and after filling up i was about 2 gallons shy of a having completely empty tank.

ya the indicator isn't perfect. the gauge's is almost every car are off by a little. i've gotten to 0 before but i was still able to go another 10 miles. i literally couldn't find any gas station and was lost on this little roadtrip. otherwise i always fill up as soon as the gas light lights up. i defintely don't recommend going any lower than that for the reason david9999 stated
