Stay away from Rector Audi, Burlingame CA
I was looking for an A3 3.2q and was referred to Rector Audi in Burlingame CA through the Costco car buying program.
The person I dealt with was Kevin. Once we discussed the options I wanted, I put down a $1000 refundable deposit and was told it would take about 90 days to get my car. We also agreed on $500 over dealer's invoice, which was a great deal. One thing Kevin didnt tell me was the invoice price b/c the car has not been ordered yet.
A month later I emailed kevin for the invoice on the A3. He responded to the email I sent and listed all the options on the car. On the bottom of the e-mail he snuck in an additional cost which we have never discussed; it was called a $495 advertising/marketing fee.
I called the dealership and asked Kevin about the cost. I refused to pay it since it was not disclosed to me when we initially sat down to discuss the car and options.
I even talked to Kevins Manager, Dan. Dan also refused to waive the cost.
I decided to take my $1000 deposit and my business elsewhere. It wasnt about the money it was about the lack of honesty. It is a bad way of doing business.
That same weekend I found the car I wanted at Carlsen Audi in Palo Alto for $250 under invoice. The sales person was great and upfront about all the costs. His name is Larry Fung. I was in and out of the Audi Dealership in about an hour.
