Default doing maintenance yourself or at a local shop

This is my first Audi (2014 A4) and my first lease (NY) so I had a question about maintenance.

I've always taken my car for service at the local shop or done the work myself for both oil changes and scheduled maintenance, which for the most part is a visual inspection of components, rotate tires, etc. (15k service)

Audi has this annoying thing where you have to take it to the dealer (or buy a pricey VAG-COM) to reset the service indicator.

I reset the oil change interval but the "inspection due" indicator needs to be reset by Audi. I think I can live with it (at least until the next scheduled maintenance when I might just give in and take it to Audi)

But will they accuse me of not following maintenance if I need to take it in for warranty service?

I was under the impression that a dealer has to be able to prove that the warranty defect is a direct result of a modification or a lack of maintenance for them to deny you warranty covered service.

and I apologize if this was mentioned in the forum already but I'm doing this on a very low laptop battery so I did not have much time to search. Thank you!
