$2000 Repair Bill from Buyer???
Hi all,
I sold my Audi A3 last month because I was moving overseas and the buyer just sent me a $2000 bill to replace the car's entire electrical system. They say we must have washed the engine a long time ago and it caused sulphation, which ruined the electrical and the car just stopped working. I can't find anything about this other than battery sulphation. Is this at all possible? I'm shocked. We had just taken a beautiful road trip right before we sold it and the car was just great. Thanks!

Did you sell the car "as is" or did you offer a warranty of any kind? Most states require you to complete a release of liability form when transferring ownership, this should indemnify you of any repair costs after the title transfer. You also should have completed a bill of sale stating that you were selling the car as is. Most likely the only thing the new owner could do is try to open a case in small claims court, but the release of liability and bill of sale would be all you need to defend yourself. Disclaimer: Not a lawyer, just a guy who has bought and sold many used cars.
