Amp killing Battery
Hey guys,
About a month ago I installed my subs and an amp. They work fine the only problem is that when my car sits for a few days the amp drains the battery. It is a 300w mono amp. A friend said it sounds like I need a capacitor, but I was hoping to not have to put anymore money into the system. Any suggestions? Thanks |
It shouldn't drain the battery if you just have a 300w amp, i have a 1000w kenwood and I have no problem with it draining the battery. what it sounds like is that your amp isn't turning off when the car is shut off...what did you hook up the amp turn on wire to?

We have the wire hooked up to the remote wire. The Cd player goes off but the amp stays on. Tonight when I reconnected the power wire it blew the fuse in the car for radio #37. Any suggestions? I was thinking of making some kind of toggle switch.

I'd go with the toggle switch becasue i had the same prob with my amp not turning off with the vehicle so i bought a toggle switch and it works fine now

A Capacitor wouldn't directly help, if its staying on its going to kill the battery. You should have a capacitor though to reduce strain on the electrical system during heavy hitting bass. They can be had as low as $50-$60, or $100 buys you a quality one. you'd only need 1 farad at 300 watts (well, less, but I'd stick with 1 farad or more, they also help "jump start" your car if the battery gets low)
