you can reset certain functions on locking etc with ross-tech vag-com software, by accessing modules controlling them, do some research at ross-tech a worthwhile investement for our cars, bought mine in 02 for my 01 jetta now use on my 01 TT, as well as girlfriends 2 vw models
I am looking for the pack on a roadster, but from everything I have been told and seen, the pack is behind drivers seat, forward of the wheel well and some have said it is on the quarter panel. You are looking for something the size of a cd case with 5 or 6 electrical plug in's. If you know where it is for a 2001 roadster let me know. I can't locate it.

stand on your knees facing backwards in the passenger seat.
The roof has to be up.
Look in the compartment where the top rolls back into right behind the passenger seat(Brits call it the boot). look straight down and there is little compartment there. Remove the cover and the ECU is mounted on the back wall with two 10mm bolts.
The right tools really help Its not easy to get to, in fact it's border line pain in the ****.
