Default A/C Unit Failure

Hi,

I have a 2005.5 A4 Quattro. I would estimate that once a year I have had to replace my A/C unit. I have extended third-party warranty so I don't usually have an issue since the warranty company pays for the replacement (~$800). However, it is a major inconvenience.

Today, I noticed that my unit started having problems. The problem is that it will not blow cold air (just fan). It will automatically set to 'Economic' and I can't change the setting. I always get told that the compressor went out. The first two times this problem happened, the replacement part installed was not Audi OEM, it was secured by the warranty company from their own supplier. The last repair, I was told by dealer that warranty company secured an Audi OEM part so I thought I wouldn't have the problem again.

Anybody know what could be going on with my A/C unit before I call my dealer to complain? The last part installed was installed less than 1 year ago so I should still be under manufacturer's warranty, even though I am covered by extended third party warranty.

The first two parts were installed in Florida. The last part, the Audi OEM part, was installed in Chicago (I moved to Chicago last year).
