Scosche makes a kit for the 03 A4 that has 2 DIN openings some double DIN radios come with a cage and trim ring and mount right in this kit I know the Kenwood DDX6019 does.

there is a Metra single din kit that you can easily modify to make a double din fit also. it cost $20 and as long as u got someone familiar with audis and or radio install you should be fine. But yea $700 is that just for installing the avic d1? cause if so that is insaneeeee. But yea the scoshe kit will work im just not to fond of the type of ABS plastic they use. but hey apples or oranges.

model number - Metra 99-9101? i believe its the kit for a 2001 Audi A6
