Default Help requested: Aftermarket radio with "one size fits all" harness

Hey guys... I'm sure you're all familiar with the K-line situation with aftermarket radios. Recently I purchased a stereo wiring harness for "96-08 A4" despite requesting one specifically for my year (a '98). I have come to the conclusion that nobody makes a proper harness for this car. What should I do? Would it be wise to de-pin the K-line wire and run it as +12V to a spare fuse instead? If so, which one should I use? I just bought the car, bone stock with low miles. Aside from the usual maintenance, and having to go through the dreaded "turn signal crisis" (I ended up buying a Passat flasher and swapped covers), this is the first thing in the car I'm looking to tackle. Which pin in this harness needs to be removed and where should I route it? I want to be able to use my scanner and VAG-COM without having to disconnect the radio every time.
