My XM Commander Satellite Radio Install

Since I didn't see anything on where to install my XM commander satellite receiver I came up with my own. What follows is a DIY for installing a satellite receiver or anything else small (boost guage, amp temp guage, etc.) into the area where the ashtray/lighter is on an early B5 (mine is a 96). I'll use the standard disclaimer to do this at your own risk and only if you are comfortable with your install skills. I chose this method because I wanted to make it fully reversable to go back to stock whenever I want.

Materials/Tools you will need:
1. 12x12 install plastic (can be picked up from any good car stereo shop- they may not want to sell it so just grease the hand of one of the installers if you have to)
2. Auto epoxy or super glue
3. Cardboard
4. Dremmel with cutting disk, grinding wheel, drill bit, and side cutting bit.
5. Other common tools (scissors, screwdrivers etc.)
