Default Sensor on Vacuum Pipe??????

Hi,

Had my A4 1.8 B5 for just over a month, serviced it when I got it and noticed a sensor on a vacuum pipe which is mounted ontop of the air box (filter housing). There is a crack where the pipe leaves the sensor seems to make a sucking / pulsing noise as a results. Any ideas what it is? Should it be replaced due to this crack?

Thanks
