Default Transmission Input/Output Speed Sensor Fault on Audi A4 (2004)

Hi All,

Just bought an 04 Audi A4 S-Line 1.9 tiptronic 140, the PRNDS is flashing on the dash, so took it to an Audi specialist garage today, they said that the Transmission input and output sensors were bringing up fault codes:

"18201 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor 2 (G196): No Signal"
"17101 - Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182) No Signal / Implausable Signal"

They were planning on ordering new sensors, so on the drive home I took the car through the car wash, voila! the PRNDS stopped flashing and car was again fine!

The car hasnt been playing whilst driving and drives as it should, although later this afternoon on a local trip the light began flashing again and PRNDS is once again doing the same, although the car still drives fine.

Is it possible that the car wash cleaned those sensors temporarily? If so, where are the sensors located to give them a thorough looking at?

Thanks very much!

Ross

Hi guys!

I'm now experiencing that same problem in my sensor... just want to ask if you were able to solve this problem? or do i need a new transmission speed sensor?
