Default Anyone have experience with ABS plastic welding?

I bought a damaged (therefore much cheaper) OEM S4 bumper to replace my damaged factory bumper. I installed it quite some time ago, and am finally getting around to fixing the few cracks that it has, along with one large hole from where it struck a tow hitch. Problem is that I'm not very experienced with these types of repair. I was thinking that using a plastic welder would give me the strongest and cleanest looking repair once finished.

Do you guys agree? If so, is this something I should attempt myself? What type/brand of welding unit should I go with?

I should really attach a pic, but just by looking at the extent of the damage and it's location, I would assume that I would need something stronger. Something that will actually hold the plastic together, rather than just fill the voids. I'm new to this kind of repair so my way of thinking may be flawed. Pics to follow soon.
